Hail to Microsoft – A Place Where Women Thrive
I have a passion for technology and collaboration – from software to earning the hearts and minds of brilliant individuals – from colleagues to friends to partners to engineers and most importantly, customers. Having resigned from Microsoft late last year - during a global pandemic - was one of the hardest decisions. I love Microsoft, the products, and the people, but most of all I am grateful for the personal growth over the years.
I resigned in search of more balance in this season a life – being a blessed Mother to two young children. You can say I pressed pause and pivoted to reboot myself. Certainly, I do not rule out returning to Microsoft one day as it – hands down – was the best company I have worked for during my career. I achieved valuable personal growth and felt fortunate to walk the halls alongside such admirable talent. The knowledge I consumed made me appreciate earning a living – and an education – from one of the world’s most sought-after organizations.
Here are a few, but not limited to, reasons I continue to love Microsoft now that I am no longer on campus:
Family first – Microsoft offers generous leaves of absence to ensure you put your family first – from a generous maternity [and paternity] leave to offering a pandemic leave
Women have a seat at the table – our voice is respected
Leading with empathy is encouraged and expected to be a daily practice
Outside-of-the-box thinking is highly supported
Always be learning – it’s not about what you know; it’s about what you learned and how you will apply those insights to your role and responsibilities
Teamwork – collaboration is key
Agility is a superpower to possess
Offer solutions to issues- take the initiative when it comes to solutioning
As a woman, I was impressed how Microsoft appreciates us as much as men. How diversity and inclusion are some of the values the company practices as much as it preaches. I personally felt the equality in the room and the respect for the people – the employees behind the solutions that make up four colorful squares of Microsoft’s logo.
